“Once Upon A Time…” by Karl Lagerfeld

Hey girls!

Chanel has a new film: Once Upon A Time. One of my new favorites, this is about Coco Chanel’s (Keira Knightley) new hat store in 1913. Fashionable French girls, played by models such as Ashleigh Good and Saskia de Brauw, show their enthusiasm strongly, practically buying out the store. Knightley embodies everything Chanel is famous for: classiness, style, and elegance. Check it out here…

Excersize-and Look Excellent!

Hey!

The air is warm, the sun is shining, and there is not a drop of snow or ice on the ground. It’s the perfect time to start your ideal exercise regimen. Mine is running. And since I’ve been running so frequently, I decided to buy myself a few more running pieces.Okay, a lot more running pieces! But still, no matter how materialistic it sounds, clothes are a major part in how you exercise: would Eli Manning score a touchdown in jeans and a tee shirt? No. So, thus being said, here are some sporty and stylish pieces to carry you to 1st place. (personally tested by yours truly)

Headbands:

Keep your hair off your face with a girly, yet useful headband. Both of these ones have tiny grips along the side, making sure you never have to push your hair away.

The Allure Trilogy Part 3: Gemma Kahng

Hey!

The Allure Trilogy is coming to a close. We’ve written about our interview with Liana Schaffner (here) and our haul from the beauty closet (here) . Now, time for the Gemma Kahng show.

The show is something I’ll remember forever. I met some amazing people, including another blogger: the super-inspiring cool girl behind the awesome blog The Quest for It, Tia Walker, who took these pictures.  I saw some amazing clothes, and I saw my first fashion show/presentation.

The show kicked off with the designer herself in red lipstick, gold pants, and a crisp white shirt. Then, she unleashed the models:

Manhattan-20130214-01684 Manhattan-20130214-01682 Manhattan-20130214-01681 Manhattan-20130214-01679 Manhattan-20130214-01676

What do you think?  Whats your favorite look?

Allure Part 2: Our MAJOR Haul from the Beauty Closet

Hey everyone!

Everyone has heard rumors about magazines’ “Closets”. The fashion ones are adorned with every shoe, handbag, dress, skirt, and top ever made, and the beauty one is spilling with lip gloss, eye shadow  mascara, spray, serum, polish, and shine. Allure gave us a tour that confirmed our suspicions. Though we got to see the clothes that Allure is using for their next shoot, a meeting was going on in the actual fashion closet, so we can’t say anything about it. But the beauty closet? It’s incredible. Practically a Willy Wonka factory for makeup hoarders (like us); the whole room is covered with wide shelves (ceiling to floor) with a tiny space for the door, and another space for the lucky employees to navigate through. Two or three of the shelves are devoted to products that Allure will feature in the upcoming issue. The rest are everything that Allure can not or will not use. These products have been previously written about, tested, or placed aside because they simply don’t go with the topics that Allure is covering. We were allowed to take anything from the products that would not be used including Chanel, Prada, Burberry, Essie, Yves Saint Laurent and much, much, much more. Oohing and ahhing, we chose our favorites very carefully. Here’s our top 10 products (in no particular order).

1.  Yves Saint Laurent Pure Chromatics  Eye shadow in 1

Even before I tried this, I knew it would be good when I saw the brushes. One is double sided foam, the other is double sided rubber. Yes, rubber brushes  They are  1/2 of the recipe for high intensity. The other half? These colors were made like any other shadow-except with one tiny, yet awesome change. Have you ever wet your brush before applying shadow to make the color stick? You don’t have to with this palette! The solvent was replaced with water, so you don’t need to worry about reapplying- one of the many reasons this should be in any girls makeup bag who loves smoky eyes. Another ingredient is the colors. The silver is sparkly and light- so you don’t look look like a clown,  the green turns out to be a high-intensity black, the white is a translucent  almost blue pale highlighter, and the periwinkle adds a cool touch and ties the whole package together. Use individually or together, and be prepared to hear “wows!” all day long.

Rating:★★★★★★★★ 8/10

2. M.A.C. Pigment Colour Powder in Vanilla

 Pigment

This super soft illuminating powder is my new makeup staple. It gives a glow to your lips, eyes, you name it! The  pigment comes in every color, but I knew when I saw the Vanilla, I knew I needed it. It has an awesome texture, a sleek package, and stays on for hours. It’s not flaky either- it’s actually the opposite  It actually feels like your putting on velvet. I can’t even begin to describe how beautiful it looks on. Depending on how you move, it changes color. One second it’s a opaque white, the next a shimmery gold.

Rating:★★★★★★★★ 10/10

3.Dior Addict Gloss in Pink Trench

I’ve been lusting over this gloss for who knows how long. When I got it, I was ecstatic. It was every bit as good as I dreamed. The brush is soft and applies evenly and the gloss is actually also a plumper.  According to sephora.com’s study, lips become “+ 26% fuller and + 36% more hydrated.” (I’ve only had it for a week, but I’ll let you know) The color is  a pale, gloss that is just noticeable enough to give you that extra shine with tiny prisms of sparkle.  J’adore!

Rating:★★★★★★★★ 10/10

4. Rain Glitteratti powder in Gold Digger

This glitzy powder, unlike M.A.C’s, is sparkly and out-there. But not in a bad way! In a super awesome way, actually. It’s a sweet, pretty touch to a smoky eye or bronze-pink lip.  This is almost identical to the pigment powder, except while the pigment has a glow, the powder has a glow and sparkles. Never-the-less, this is a gorgeous color that looks amazing on a smoky eye.

Rating:★★★★★★★★★ 8/10

5. M.A.C Lipglass in Viva Glam

 Viva Glam Nicki Lipglass

This reminds me so much of Nicki: it’s flirty, sweet, pretty, bright and awesome! The formula is incredible and it’s super creamy, smooth and long-lasting.  The color is a shocking pink, thats still elegant to pair with a smoky eye. The brush helps you pack as much shine is possible, it’s a little bigger than the average one. This gloss is something I’d recommend to anyone who wants a high power, shiny, and intense lip gloss.

Rating:★★★★★★★★9/10

6. Organix Moroccan Sea Salt Spray

With this sea salt spray, its summer everyday. It smells like salty ocean waves and and a tiny bit like Floridian humidity (fruity and warm and happy). Luckily, it only gives you tousled, pretty waves. It’s really easy too- all  you need to do is spray and scrunch in towel-dried wet hair, or dry for extra oomph. This is the only sea salt spray I’ve used that actually makes it look like you have perfect beachy waves.

Rating: ★ (10/10)

7. Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Intense Lip Colour in Excentrique

Lipstick ROUGE ALLURE

It’s loud, but elegant. Pigmented, yet long-lasting. Thin, yet moisturizing. I love orange-red lipsticks, and this one is no exception. Chanel has made yet another sleek, flirty, stick that screams notice me.

Rating: ★ (10/10)

7. Lucid Lipgloss in Cabo

Cabo

I’m a complete sucker for vanilla, and this Lucid gloss is paradise. The gloss smells like cake batter, but looks professional and sweet. The picture is  little deceiving: it’s a sheer. nude, color with a teeny bit of shine. The brush is long and applies the non-sticky formula easily. Love it!

Rating: ★ (8/10)

9. NYX Color Lip Balm in Grazie

COLOR LIP BALM

Want a balm that looks like a lip stick but feels like a moisturize? Look no further. This chapstick is a pale  raspberry red, color that makes your face glow. It’s really soft and also smells amazing-like cherry. It stays on for hours and makes your lips noticeably softer.

Rating: ★ (10/10)

10. Yves Saint Laurent Creme De Blush in Audacious Orange

Don’t be fooled by this bright orange color, I was at first. The tint is actually a pale pink colot, that gives you a super-natural flush.  It doubles as a lip moisturizer , but appears more coral when on lips. There’s no gross smell or any bumps, it goes on so smoothly.

Rating: ★ (10/10)

And there’s our top ten. Do you have any of these products, and do you like them? Comment below, and stay posted by following for part three: Gemma Kahng show.

The Allure Trilogy: Part one

Hey!

Recently, I went to Allure Magazine with Liana Schaffner (Beauty Department). Not only did she let us interview her, tour the magazine, and ‘shop’ in the beauty closet, but she gave us her tickets to a Gemma Kahng presentation (For those of you who don’t know, is an exclusive preview of a designers new collections). The next few days will be devoted to all of our adventures. Read on for part one: Discussing the must have products, and getting the secrets on the best brands (hint: it’s something you could easilly get at CVS) with Liana Schaffner herself!

After we toured the stylish halls filled with stylish girls typing on mac laptops and buzzing around, we sat down with Liana. Wearing a black leather motorcycle jacket, burgundy lace top, and leggings tucked into booties, she proved she looks just as nice as she is.

2chicgurls: If you were stranded on a desert island and you could only five products, which ones would you choose?

Liana Schaffner: Oh my gosh, only five? Hmm… I’d take drugstore mascara (some of the best are so sophisticated these days)  and tinted moisturizer. I don’t use foundation a lot because it gets cakey and after all, if you’re gonna be on an island, you don’t want your makeup to melt easily. I’d also take cream blush, because you can also use it on your lips (her favorite is Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge). I’d definitely take a brow pencil, ’cause when your brows look good, the rest of your face does too, and then I’d bring a brow pencil to blend it all in.

2CG: What is your all time favorite makeup and brand?

LS: All brands are so good, and I love blush and mascara, but I’d have to say lipstick, and Chantecaille makes this lipstick called Cassiopeia. It’s just like this perfect coral, bright, beautiful pink. If you wear it, your just…set!

Chantecaille Sheer Lipstick in Cassiopeia

Chantecaille Sheer Lipstick in Cassiopeia

2CG: How would you describe working at Allure?

LS:
Theres definitely a glamour aspect of working in a beauty magazine, and its very exciting, but it’s hard work. You don’t just show up and play with products. There’s a lot of writing and editing. With beauty especially, you have to talk to many chemists, dermatologists, research and development people, because beauty is like science. Even the simplest, whitest cream has science behind it. You have to be sure the products you recommend are good.

2CG: Whats your favorite part?

LS: I’m a writer, so it’s exciting that I get to write so much (right now, we’re working on the May Issue!) But it’s also pretty exciting to know the best makeup and trends. I get to be really creative, because you can’t recycle the same information over and over.

2CG: We feel your pain! Anyway, final question. What advice would you want to give to people who want a career in beauty and/or fashion?

LS:  Well, what you guys are doing is great, having a blog is an awesome way to start your own profession. Keep on top of things and apply for internships! Learn anything from the ground up!

Thank you so much, Liana! Also, follow to stay posted for our huge haul, reviews included!

A Personal guide to the Easiest last-minute Valentines Day Preparations

Hey!

Valentines day is less than 12 hours away. Time to break out the conversation hearts, roses, and chocolate! Also, the cute outfits, the perfect makeup, the presents for your girlfriends, not to mention for your secret someone. You can’t forget the sweet treats and the hairstyle and… well, I could go on, but I think I’ve made my point. Cupid day is super sweet, but stressful. And if your anything like me, you’re freaking about about every little detail. Luckily, I’m here, and I have your Valentines day morning game-plan, whether you want to bw sweet and pretty or sassy and bold!!

OUTFITS- Probably the most stressful part of any day. Valentines day bumps up the intensity: not only do you have to be sweet, but you have to be sassy and stylish. Sounds hard, but if you mix and match, you’ll find the perfect outfit for free-it’s straight from your closet!

Option one:  Sweet-

Lace is the way to go. Pair a cute and flirty top with a flouncy skirt, or a pencil skirt for a slightly sassier look. Polish it all off with ballet flats, sweet makeup and loose curls (see below), and you’ll look sweeter than any treat!

MAKEUP: It’s a little hard to draw the line between cute and tacky. Luckily, Candace  Swanepoel seems to know what shes doing (pictures from Polyvore from here down)

Option One: Sweet-

Candace

Flushed cheeks, glowing skin, and nude lips? Perfect.

Get the look: wash your face well and apply any morning routine product (face wash, etc.) Rub in your moisturizer until it’s set in your skin. Apply vanilla eye shadow to your lid, then pale pink to your crease.(optional) Blend well. Get a red lip gloss, and put it on your index finger. On your middle finger, take a small scoop of your favorite moisturizer (a little more than usual), and mix about half on to the lipgloss, then apply the gloss-moisturizer on your cheeks. Rub the non-red moisturizer on the rest of your skin (This trick was learned in the Bobbi Brown book) Though it sounds like circus makeup, it gives you a pretty pale pink flush. Seal the look with pale gloss…on your lips.

Option Two: Sassy-

Candace

Big eyes with a wing, white eyeliner and red lipstick screams: Hello, heartbreaker!

Get the look: Start the look off like in option one. Do your morning face routine, wash, face scrub, whatever you do. Then moisturize. Take your favorite black wet-eyeliner and do a small wing (If your as hopeless at that as I am, then only do the line, not the wing.) If you want to, add  a pale gray color on your lower line. Then, (back to mandatory :) ) apply pale white (NOT SPARKLY!) eye shadow or eyeliner to the corener of your eye, and a little bit on your lower lash line. Put foundation on  your lips, then red lip liner. With a lip brush, apply a red lipstick. Swipe on some red gloss, and you’ll be glowing!

Hair: It’s impossible to have soft, manageable, pretty hair last minute, right? WRONG.

Sweet Inspiration: Samantha Barks

Brush through your hair, and get out all the knots possible. If your hair is looking hermione-ish, put in a  little leave in conditioner and frizz cream (make sure they say for dry hair) Then, gather the front of either side of your hair, one with more strands than the other, pin them loosely back. If you need it and have time, curl the bottom of your hair for loose easy ringlets.

Samantha Barks

Sassy Inspiration: Fergie

Brush your hair completely through until it shines (For an extra glossy look, add shine serum.) If you have curly hair, straighten it. It you have short hair or want to got the extra mile, grab your extensions. Gather up your hair except for a small portion near the front and put it into the highest ponytail you can and secure it, preferably with a rubber band close to your hair colors. Wrap the section around your rubber band and secure it  with a few bobby pins. To reduce all flyaways, put hairspray on a soft bristled brush (if you don’t have any, a toothbrush will do) Brush through your hair, and voila! Perfect pony.

Ponytail with hair wrapped around to tie it up.Fergies simple ponytail hairstyle hair-and-beauty

Presents:

For girls- Take all of your candy stash and divide it, a pile for each friend. Throw in a little chocolate square (wrapped, of course) or a pack of gum. Place in a pretty pink bag with tissue paper and tie the whole thing with some girly curled ribbons.

For guys- Homemade food is definitely the key. Make chocolate chip cookies and a sweet note, and you’ll have a not-so-secret admirer.

Hope your valentines day is romantic, fun, and easy!

XOXO,

Beat the winter blahs

Hey!

Well, it’s January. Brr! Officially the season of “look at my breath!”, comfort scarves, snowflakes and fires. :( Sometimes I just wanna crawl up in my nice cozy bright red covers and sleep till the sun comes out (Tell me I’m not alone here!) But, I need to face the icy winds. Instead of wearing the colors of the snow, wear the bright colors you wish were still around! Heres a way to beat the blues…and grays and whites.

Wear a holiday sweater:

No, we’re not talking about the hideous Rudolph one that some relative gives every year. Holiday sweaters can actually be festive and chic, even if the actual celebrations are over.

Golden Globes

Mermaid dresses, updos, and bright red dresses were everywhere in the Golden Globes. From slinky to sexy, long to little, and ravishing to repulsive, A-Listers prove they know how to make an entrance. Read on for my favorites

Julianne Hough- Her first thoughts about her Monique Lhullier gown was “it screams amazing”, and we agree!

Katherine McPhee, Debra Messing, and Megan Hilty all looked “smash”ing in Theyskens Theory, and Donna Karan.

Hayden Panettiere- Like her “Nashville” charachter, her Cavalli dress was slinky, sexy, and beautiful!

jennifer lawrence golden globes 2013 red carpet 01

Jennifer Lawrence- In Christian Dior Haute Couture dress, Brian Atwood shoes, Chopard jewelry, and a Ferragamo clutch. She was the “Silver Lining” of the red carpet. Girl on fire indeed!

Amy Adams- In a Marchesa nude dress and dark lipstick, Amy Adams looked amazing, topping her whole look with a vintage-style updo

Zooey Deschanel-In her Oscar De La Renta dress, she proved she’s not the “New GIrl” in Hollywood fashion.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus- Wearing a Vera Wang strapless dress, with minimal accesories, she glowed on the carpet.

Claire Danes- Claire showcased her amazing post-baby body in a personalized Versace dress.

Isla Fisher- Girls, grab your highlighter and berry gloss! Isla is easily pulling off the latest trend, along with a Reem Acra dress.

ENTER GOLDENGLOBES 1 LA

Francesca Eastwood- In a Pronovias dress, wavy hair, and lipstick, Francesca proved less is definitely more.

anne hathaway golden globes

Anne Hathaway- Unlike Fantine, Anne looked glowing and healthy in Chanel

Naomi Watts- Naomi channeled Princess Diana in her Zac Posen gown.

taylor swift golden globes

Taylor Swift- Despite her breakup with Harry Styles, Taylor looks stunning! No suprises there.

Finally…

Amanda Seyfried- Mamma Mia! Amanda smoldered in Givenchy.

FOUR MINI REVIEWS: Revlon products

Hey! I recently bought four Revlon products: Colorburst Lip Gloss, Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain, Colorstay Longwear Enamel, and Revlon Colorstay 16 hour eye shadow. They’re all super awesome, so I decided to write a review on them. (Click the picture to buy them)

1. Colorburst Lip Gloss in Sunset Peach

I got this gorgeous lip gloss as a present from my sister and I LOVE it! It looks amazing with olive skin and totally makes lips look super full. The foam brush spreads gloss easily and isn’t too gloppy or sticky. All in all, I would reccomend this yummy smelling, peach lip gloss to anyone and everyone.

PRICE: $7.50

RATING: ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ (10/10)

2.  Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain

I got the next three from a Secret santa. The first is a SUPER BRIGHT balm stain. It’s really pretty, and stays on forever. Like I said before, it’s really bright, very barbie-ish. It’s fun for a night out and looks cute on. The only (slight) problem is its very delicate.  I love it and I’m very glad i got it :)

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable™ Balm Stain

Price: $9

Rating:  ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤- (9/10)

3. Colorstay Longwear Enamel in Fall Mood

My second gift from my Secret Santa was this polish. It might be one of my favorites. It’s sparkly but covers your nail, and complements your skin to make it look tan. Its’s a really good brush but a teensy bit gloppy, but dries smooth.

Revlon ColorStay Longwear Nail Enamel - Fall Mood

Price: $8

RATING: ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ (10/10)

4.  Revlon Colorstay 16 hour eye shadow in Inspired

This was my final gift from my Secret Santa. It’s nice quality and is easily applied. I haven’t gotten to use this one as much, but I have to admit that this is my least favorite.  It’ s a little bright, and it doesn’t look very good (at least on me) when I follow the look on the back. However, when the I use just one color in a look, it looks pretty!

Revlon® ColorStay™ 16 Hour Eye Shadow

Price: $5.62

RATING: ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ (8/10)
